Planning and Leadership Development

PowerSouth understands that progressive and supportive leadership is vital to a community’s growth and development.  Listed below are several programs and activities in which we participate.

Alabama Community of Excellence

Alabama Community of Excellence is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization managed by a board of directors. An executive director and administrative assistant direct the day-to-day operations of the organization. The board consists of representatives from each partner organization. An advisory committee works with the board and staff to assess the program and recommend changes and improvements.

The ACE program is a comprehensive approach to economic and community development for cities with populations between 2,000 and 12,000. ACE links communities to the private sector, government agencies and universities. ACE partner organizations plan and prepare for a more vibrant future. All participating communities in the program must complete the three phases listed below to become a certified ACE community.

  • Phase one – Assessment
  • Phase two – Leadership Development and Strategic Planning
  • Phase three  - Implementation

In developing the program CLEO course designers have worked closely with the Alabama  Commerce Commission.  The CLEO program offers local communities customized training sessions from a broad selection of economic and community development modules. Onsite Training

Our plan of work outlines that we will offer onsite training to economic developers in areas identified by consultants as critical to successful industrial recruitment.  For example, in 2005, PowerSouth contracted with Lockwood Greene Consulting Firm to conduct a site selection RFI seminar. This seminar was to request a mock RFI from local developers, evaluate the RFI, and in one-on-one interviews to make recommendations on how to improve their RFI. We also offered to area residential, commercial and industrial developers an onsite wastewater treatment seminar. This seminar presented current regulations, alternative systems and total cost. Our 2006 plan of work includes tentative dates for additional on-site seminars.
